AUTOMATION IN OFFICE – PART 2
Tap “Unlock Door” on your phone!
Did you know, you can go completely touch-free in your office spaces by automating your doors and blinds, too? In our last blog Automation in Offices, we addressed retrofitted automation. In this blog we’ll be focusing on contact free solutions for areas that do not always allow retrofit automation.
The foundation of automation – is an electric connection. What do you do when you do not have an electric connection but want motorized blinds and automated doors? Small changes to make – but it’s worth it!
Floor Spring Doors
Floor Spring doors are your everyday push-to-open doors.
These doors can be fitted with the Dorma Porteo technology – in which a pulling mechanism is fitted on the top of the door and attached to an electric connection. It can then be connected to a phone, remote or a sensor-switch and the door will swing open without a touch! Hafele and Dorma have digital locks which can be used for an automated locking system in these doors.
Existing locks can also be fitted with the new cylinder technology in which the lock cylinder is replaced with an electronic cylinder for an automated locking system!
Sliding Doors
The mechanism of sliding doors depends on the channel on which they run. In this case, the channels will have to be changed to allow for automation. Dorma has sliding door channels with a motion sensor fixed on top – it will slide open as you walk towards it, similar to the glass doors we see in malls and airports! Digital locks can be used for the locking mechanism here as well.
BlindsThe channels on which blinds run determine the possibility of automation. If the channels are motorized and have an electric point close to them – they can be automated!
Now, some brands and types of channels allow the fixing of motors in existing channels while others don’t. In the latter case, it is best to invest in a motorized channel and control your blinds from either a phone or an AI speaker device like Alexa!
What about safety?
As we discussed in our previous blog – in automation, the master control lies with one person who can then assign the same to other users. In case of the Dorma digital locks -multiple codes can be created for employees, staff, etc. which will be applicable to particular doors – you don’t have to worry about everyone having access to every area.
Apart from remote control and phone app for digital locks– you can also use digital cards and RFID tags.
Door-handles, push plates and buttons are the largest collectors of bacteria, germs and other contaminants. Looks like Corona virus likes them too! Keep your doors contact-less, retrofit automation, and maintain hygiene and safety at your workplace, at a very small price!
