‘PODS’ are Trending in New Office design!

What do you require to create one?

 

The importance of providing deep work zones in offices for focused working was the topic of our blog Deep Work Zones – here we’ll show you how to create the sanctuary for deep work – the pod!

Pods are like small closed-off rooms that can be located anywhere in an office space. Equipped with electric points, suitable furniture and most importantly – acoustic insulation, the use of pods has proven to dramatically increase productivity and efficiency.

 

So this takes us to another question – should the use of these pods have a time limit? We think that might be a good idea – and recommend installing a timer!

What do you require to install a pod:
– Available area should be about 1.5m x 2.1m, though it can be done in less
– Good acoustic panelling on walls as well as ceiling
– Carpeted flooring to absorb sound
– Ergonomic and comfortable seating (also depends on task)
– Dark colors (create the cocoon effect) for deeper focus
– Desktop, electrical points and an internet connection, for sure
– Conferencing facilities? Only if you need them!
– A timer, if you need one!

There are many solutions to the above – create it yourself, get your contractor to do it for you, or you could order these from a manufacturer. The one shown here is made by Studio MNT Pvt. Ltd., based in Delhi.

These pods have all the essential requirements like air ventilation, sound absorption and provision for electric points. The structure of the pod is prefabricated and can be installed at site without any deconstruction – all you need is the required space!

Employers are now beginning to realize that increased productivity is the result of increased focus. Creating space for, and providing pods is a great way to ensure that employees get their private space without having to deconstruct the office. Hope this short checklist helps you create cool and extremely functional pods for your workspace!
